Perfecting Skin Essence-Serum

Beneath the pores of our skin are follicles, which host a hair and an oil gland. The oil gland releases oil (sebum), which travels out of the pore and onto the skin via the hair. This layering of oil helps keep skin moisturised. Old skin cells are also shed from the follicles through the pores.

Acne occurs when the pores of your skin become blocked with oil, dead skin, or bacteria, which feast on the sebum. This usually happens in individuals whose follicles produce excessive oil.

Acne can manifest as black heads, white heads, inflamed papules or pus-filled pustules (pimples). Inflamed papules and pimples can lead to scarring (see below). 

Our follicles contain receptors which in some of us, can be overreactive or extra-sensitive to our internal hormones. This can result in facial acne or even baldness as the scalp.

Perfecting Skin Serum uses a collection of plant signaling molecules to interfer with the hormonal imbalance in our oil glands that drive up sebum production. As such, Perfecting Skin Essence directly combats the root cause of hormonal acne. Niacinamide also regulates sebum production, and malic acid and sulfur in Perfecting Skin Serum combats the growth of bacteria in our pores.

The pigment in our skin, known as melanin, is produced by the tyrosinase enzyme found in a special group of cells in our skin, melanocytes. Occasionally, a group of melanocytes up-regulate their tyrosinase activity to produce more melanin than normal in different locations of the skin, causing dark spots and uneven skintone.

Abnormal up-regulation of tyrosinase activity can be caused by UV-damage, hormonal changes, inflammation and oxidative damage.

Perfecting Skin Essence-Spray uses plant signaling molecules to interfer with the hormonal imbalance that causes melasma. Perfecting Skin Essence-Spray also uses malic acid, ferulic acid and quercetin to reduce oxidative damage and lighten skin at the surface.

Perfecting Skin Essence-Spray has niacinamide, which inhibits the transfer of melanin from the melanocytes at the lower layer of the dermis to keratinocytes at the upper layer of the dermis. This gives a supporting brightening effect.

Collagen, elastin, and proteoglycans are proteinaceous extracellular matrix components that provide tensile strength, elasticity, and hydration to the skin, respectively.

As time passes, these proteinaceous components are produced less, causing skin to be thinner and weaker. In women, this is also linked to our sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. When we produce less sex hormones, we naturally produce less collagen and elastin.

Inflammation and stress hormones just as cortisol also encourage enzymes in the skin to degrade collagen, contributing to skin sag.

Perfecting Skin Serum penetrates deeply into the skin via the pores to thoroughly hydrate and plump the skin with hyaluronic acid and algae extract. It is also a source of sulfur, a key component of collagen synthesis and sulfur containing peptides.
