Apply 2 times a day for dry, sensitive skin; 3-4 times a day for eczema prone skin.
The base can make up over 90% of the total formulation and is as critical as the actives present. Our formulation is hypoallergenic-tested, free of parabens and common additives can irritate the skin, and uses nourishing food-grade sunflower oil and aloe vera for high intensity use. Patent pending.
Eczema is a skin condition that arises from two main factors:
One notable molecule, histamine, released by our immune system in response to triggers, makes the skin itchy and inflamed, thus worsening eczema. Histamine levels naturally rise whilst we sleep, which is why the itch may be worse at night.
The above two factors mean that extra steps are required to moisturise the skin, manage microbial balance and limit exposure to allergens.
Cortisteroids are drugs commonly used reduce inflammation and manage eczema. When used appriopiately, they help eczema patients recover faster and protect skin health. They closely resemble our cortisol, our own molecule naturally produced in times of stress.
Although cortisol and cortisteroids are anti-inflammatory, prolonged use can suppress our immune system's ability to fight microbes and increase dysfunction. In fact, sharp spikes of cortisol from stress have been found to trigger eczema, and prolonged high cortisol levels are harmful for general health and increase heart disease. Both cortisol and cortisteroids increase elastin degradation in our skin, thereby weakening the skin barrier and causing early skin aging.
The constant need of cortisteroids usually means that there are unresolved issues in relation to one or both of the factors: the presence of allergens and microbes above the threshold that eczema patient can handle; improper moisturization. Here are some things to consider:
Moisturisers contain many additives to keep water and oil together, and preservatives to stop them from spoiling. Unfortunately, a portion of eczema patients are also allergenic or sensitive to these additives and preservatives. This is why certain eczema patients resort to waterless butters or oils. However, as eczema patients are unable to store moisture properly in this skin, creams or balms with both oil and water are still considered most beneficial. Epicdermis Relief Cream uses a novel technology that enables us to be free of these additives and preservatives.
Epicdermis Relief Cream also uses quercetin [1], one of nature's most powerful anti-histamine and cortisol regulator. Epicdermis Relief Cream uses only high molecular weight hyaluronic acid which are anti-inflammatory, versus low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, which are pro-inflammatory [2][3]
